Introducing the UK’s first probiotic ointment for babies & children

BioGaia Aldermis

Developed with your baby’s skin microbiome in mind, BioGaia® Aldermis Probiotic Ointment helps strengthen the skin’s natural protective barrier while supporting its beneficial flora. Like the gut microbiome, the skin microbiome plays an essential role in keeping skin balanced, resilient, and comfortable.

Formulated with live L. reuteri — not probiotic extracts, but real active probiotics — the ointment helps restore balance where sensitive and atopic-prone skin needs support most. Fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, and dermatologically tested, it is gentle and suitable even for delicate skin.

Supporting health from the inside out

For decades, BioGaia® has helped families nurture health from within. Now, we’re extending that same care to the skin. Your skin is your largest organ and has a large contact surface with the outside environment. It’s also home to billions of bacteria, fungi, and viruses that make up the skin microbiota. Similarly, to those in our gut, skin bacteria play an important role in maintaining a healthy immune system and protecting the skin from pathogens.

Emerging science around the gut–skin axis shows how microbiome balance — both inside the body and on the skin’s surface — is essential for overall skin health, especially in early life when the microbiome is still developing.

What does your skin tell you?

Despite being on the outside of your body, your skin can provide a surprisingly clear indication of what's going on inside.

Healthy skin is an excellent indicator of a healthy body. The skin's appearance, texture, or condition can indicate, among other things, nutritional deficiencies and hormonal imbalances. Good nutrition, hydration, stress management, and a healthy lifestyle are natural ways to support the skin's vitality and radiance.

The skin can provide valuable insight into our overall health and serve as a reminder to prioritize holistic well-being.

Why microbiome-friendly skincare for babies and children?

All babies and children with sensitive or atopic-prone skin need extra care. At birth, skin transitions from a warm, watery environment to a dry one, and the outermost layer is around 30% thinner than adult skin, making it more prone to dryness. While skin continues to develop after birth, it doesn’t fully perform all its protective functions until the skin microbiome is well-established — usually around 3 to 4 years of age. Even after this age, maintaining a balanced skin microbiome remains important, especially for children with dry, sensitive, atopic-prone skin. A healthy microbiome helps protect the skin, supports natural immunity, and keeps it more resilient.
